Campaign Duration: March 15 – April 12
Total Budget: CHF 90 (Approx.)
Total Clicks: 389
Impressions: 22,500
Conversions: 28
Conversion Rate: 7.2%
Cost Per Conversion: CHF 3.21

🧠 Background

Smart home technology is evolving rapidly. With new gadgets being launched every day, standing out in a crowded market is a challenge—especially when working with a limited advertising budget.

A small but promising smart home accessories brand approached me with a straightforward goal:

“We want sales. We don’t have a big budget, but we want results. Can you help?”

Spoiler: Yes, I could—and did.

🎯 Objective

  • Generate high-quality traffic to their online store.

  • Drive actual conversions (not just clicks).

  • Keep the cost per conversion below CHF 4.

  • Stay within a small test budget of CHF 90.

This wasn’t just about visibility—it was about profitable performance.

🔍 Challenges

  • Low Brand Awareness: The brand was relatively new with no existing online reputation.

  • Tight Budget: CHF 90 gave us a narrow window for testing, learning, and optimizing.

  • Highly Competitive Niche: Competing against established electronics and smart home brands.

  • Product Range Complexity: Various accessories with different use-cases, making audience targeting more complex.

🚀 Strategy & Execution

✅ 1. Audience Research & Micro Targeting

The first step was to understand the buying behavior of smart home enthusiasts. I created highly specific audience segments, including:

  • Homeowners interested in tech upgrades

  • DIY home automation lovers

  • Early adopters of smart devices

  • People recently searching for Alexa/Google Home compatible accessories

I used Google’s in-market segments and custom intent audiences to refine our targeting.

✅ 2. Keyword Strategy: Quality Over Quantity

Instead of going broad, I selected highly transactional, long-tail keywords, such as:

  • “Buy smart plug EU”

  • “Motion sensor for Google Home”

  • “Smart bulb compatible with Alexa”

This laser-focused approach reduced waste and attracted people who were already ready to buy.

✅ 3. Ad Copy That Converts

The ads didn’t just highlight features—they spoke to real-life benefits:

“Control Your Lights From Anywhere – No Hub Needed”
“Smart Plugs That Save Energy & Money – Plug & Play”
“Easy Installation, Powerful Automation – Buy Now”

Each ad was paired with sitelinks and callout extensions (e.g., “Fast Shipping,” “EU Compatible,” “No Monthly Fee”) to boost visibility and trust.

✅ 4. Smart Bidding + Manual Refinement

I ran the campaign using Enhanced CPC (manual bidding with smart help) to maintain control but allow Google’s AI to optimize toward conversions.

I also scheduled ads during peak shopping hours (8–11 AM and 7–10 PM) based on user behavior analytics.

✅ 5. Landing Page Suggestions for Higher Conversions

Though I didn’t control the landing page, I provided the client with quick conversion-boosting suggestions:

  • Add a trust badge (e.g., Secure Checkout)

  • Improve product images & add a 5-second demo GIF

  • Display limited stock notice to create urgency

  • Add a “compatible with Alexa & Google Home” badge visibly

📈 Results Within 29 days, here’s what the campaign achieved:

💡 What Worked So Well?

  • Laser-sharp targeting: Instead of spreading the budget thin, I honed in on specific searchers with buying intent.

  • Conversion-focused ad copy: I spoke directly to the users’ needs, not just features.

  • Constant optimization: I monitored search terms, adjusted bids, and refined audiences every few days.

  • Data-backed decisions: Every tweak was made based on actual performance, not guesswork.

🧩 Takeaway

This case proves that big results don’t need big budgets. With strategic planning, precision targeting, and compelling messaging, even a modest campaign can deliver tangible conversions at an impressive cost per sale.

This client now plans to scale the campaign, increasing the budget and expanding the product line with Google Shopping ads and remarketing strategies.
